How To Save $275.60 Using A Printer!

I love it when I find an extreme example of being able to save a customer money just by using AIS Premium toner cartridges!

My son had a Doctors appointment yesterday and I asked to talk to the person that purchases supplies for the printers in their office.  She was very pleasant and interested in letting someone from our office get back with her.  After I left her my son and I visited with the person in the office that reconciles insurance payments.

I asked the insurance related employee a few questions and discovered some interesting things.  She is printing to an HP LJ1200 printer using HP C7115A cartridges (2500 page yield) that we sell for $65.99 each ($.0264 per page).  The employee told me she changes cartridges every 30 to 45 days.  If you use an average of 5 weeks for each cartridge change that means they are printing as much as 26,000 pages a year on this printer.

By taking the cost per page for each cartridge and multiply them by the number of pages printed you get $686.40 for the HP cartridges (one year supply) and $410.80 for the AIS Premium (3500 page yield with a cost per page of $.0158). The total savings for the year is $275.60 on a single printer. 

Did I mention that this office appears to have more than a dozen printers?

In an attempt to limit your boredom, I will try and keep this short.  In my last post, Cheaper Is Not Less Expensive, I showed how you can save about 18% simply by buying the HP brand 13X (high yield) cartridge instead of a 13A (low yield).  If you don't have an HP LaserJet 1300 printer this principal is still relevant but the part numbers and prices will be a little different.

The way you can save 54% or $38.01 in my previous example is to buy AIS's premium cartridge for $69.99. The cost per page to print with the AIS premium cartridge is $.0234 (compared to .0360 for the 13A and .0307 for the 13X). 

Consider the additional cost to operate an HP LaserJet 1300 using the HP brand instead of our premium cartridge...

• AIS P13X = 11.70/cost per ream
• HP 13X = 15.35/cost per ream    (+3.65/ream, +36.50/case)
• HP 13A = 18.00/cost per ream    (+6.30/ream, +63.00/case)

Active Imaging Services, LLC (AIS) is my portal to the Marketplace.  We have been doing all things related to printers since 1994 (selling, repairing, manufacturing cartridges, etc.).  It's interesting how confusing the printer manufacturers (HP, Lexmark, Epson, etc.) make cartridges and part numbers. 

I was in an office yesterday picking up empty cartridges (we collect empties from businesses) and this office had started buying Q2613A (13A) cartridges for their HP LaserJet 1300 printer.  If they were buying the Q2613X (13X)cartridge they would be saving about $16.01 every time they bought a Q2613X.  Let me show you what I mean...

13A @ $71.99 divided by 2000 page yield = .0360 per page

13X @ $91.99 divided by 3000 page yield = .0307 per page

This office has been paying 3.6 cents per page and if you multiply that by the 3000 page yield of the 13X they pay $108.00 or $16.01 more than what the 13X normally costs ($91.99).

I'm going to stop and let that sink in.  I hope my inner nerd hasn't been to obvious.  I just get jacked up when I realize that someone is paying almost 18% more for a cartridge just because they didn't get service from the company they bought it from.

My next post I will show how this company should not stop at saving around 18% but instead save as much as 54% ($38.01 instead of $16.01 savings)!
